Aletta

Aletta

Bom día!

My name is Aletta and I am born and raised in The Netherlands. I was born in 1965 in a town called Baarn, in the center of the country. In 2003 I moved to Ermelo, a village that is situated near the Veluwe, the largest natural and touristic region of Holland.

I like spending my time in the woods with my husband and my dog, an Australian Terrier. My hobbies are travelling, photography, spinning, step biking and music.

The picture in my bio was taken during my last visit to Madeira, at New Year’s day 2016 in Funchal. Love Madeira!

In December/January I visited the island of Madeira for the third time. I have really fallen in love with its beautiful nature and lovely people. I have several friends who live on the island and one friend who is born in Funchal, but lives in Lisbon. I also travelled to the coast of Lisbon and made a round trip through the center and the Alentejo. Love Portugal too!

Ola!

My name is Jayne and I am 33 years of age and live in the UK.

I visited Madeira in 2013 and 2015 and absolutely love the island!

My hobbies are art, photography and architecture – among other things – and Madeira was full of all of these, providing plenty of inspiration for art and craft ideas for me to do!

I will be tweeting recommendations of places to visit and things to do, also using some of the many photographs that I have taken during both visits to Madeira to showcase the beauty of the island.

I’m a 20 year old Canadian and Portuguese girl. My parents are both from Madeira Island, particularly Câmara de Lobos. I have been to the beautiful island seven times and I will continue to go throughout the years. It’s quite obvious why I love being there. It’s rich in culture, nature, and breathtaking views that only those who have been there can understand. I’m also a graduate makeup artist and side photographer. I enjoy the simple things and beauty in life.

Rúbrio Nóbrega

Hi! I’m Rúbrio, born and raised in the beautiful island of Madeira.

I’m a graphic designer and a trainer, passionate about art, heritage, history and poetry.

Madeira is my home and also my study subject, since I’ve always been interested about its histories and legends. In that sense, I’ve created a Facebook group dedicated to this theme: https://www.facebook.com/groups/fabulamadeira (in Portuguese).

If you love Madeira’s nature, you’ll also be fascinated by its histories and traditions.

Nádia Rodrigues

Nadia Rodrigues

Hi! I’m Nádia. I’m a 29-year-old Work and Organizations psychologist working in the field of hospitality. I was born and raised in Madeira Island but I have lived for about 5 years in the mainland. During that time I missed the sea… I missed the sea a lot!

I’m a proud inhabitant of Madeira because of its diversity: I can surf in the ocean in the morning, do a picnic in the woods in the afternoon, do some shopping at the mall in the evening and dance at the disco through the night (yes, all of this in the same day!). This variety is also present in the landscapes, the traditions and (best of all) in the food!

Photography is my passion and it has allowed me to look into Madeira’s land and seascapes with more depth and complexity. You can check my photo project about Madeira at monochromisland.wordpress.com

My job at a hotel keeps me in touch with many different people and cultures. So if you do check-in at Vila Galé Santa Cruz please ask for me in the reception, I’ll be very pleased to give you a tour.

My passion for my heritage began with my first trip to Madeira at only 3 years old. Since then, I have enjoyed the island’s beauty, culture, and friendly people. The island is perfect for individuals with a love of the outdoors with its beautiful beaches, hiking trails, and endless activities. Madeira Island will always keep me coming back.

Don Amaro

Don Amaro

Hi. My name is Don Amaro and I am the admin of both this site and @Madeira Twitter account.

My roots are divided into two islands namely Curaçao and Madeira. Interesting fact is that these are both islands … and also both are well-known alcoholic drinks. You could therefore consider me as a large bottle with a mixture of these both beverages … only … it has a Dutch label on it. The Netherlands was the place where I spent most of my lifetime, but the last 12 years I have been living on the beautiful island named Madeira.

On daily basis I work as a web strategist, social media editor, photographer, graphic designer, web master … and altruist (which is more my character than my job description). My love for the island of Madeira has grown with the years and therefore, to show my gratitude, I want to give something in return. Through various Internet channels I try to create platforms, introduce ideas with the mere objective to promote the island to the world. And what do I get for in return? Here is where the ‘altruist’ part kicks in.

@Madeira Twitter account is one of my (several) personal projects. Started in 2007, and now (April 2017) with a total of 18,500+ tweets and 7,750+ followers, it has become one of my daily tasks … to post about Madeira. However in 2016 I decided also to give other Madeira lovers the opportunity to use this channel to express their views and memories about Madeira. I call this ‘guest curating’, but it is also known as Rotation Curation (#RoCur).

When we have no designated ‘levadeiro’ (guest curator) for a certain week/period, then I will ‘fill in the gaps’. But I hope we can find more Madeirans (maybe even Cristiano Ronaldo …?) to join the fun and show the world how big (in heart and personality) Madeirans really are.
