Bom Dia !
My name is Hilda Andrade and I am thrilled and honoured to be a part of a group of these amazing Levadeiros I was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada and my parents and husband are from Sao Miguel, Azores.
Portugal has always had a warm place in my heart! I am a grandmother to 3 boys, ages 15, 7 and 5 with a new addition expected this July. I am also a true supporter of animals and have 1 dog and Cockatiel.
My first visit to Madeira was for New Years Eve, 2015. It was a surprise 10 day trip I booked to celebrate my husbands “Special birthday”. I had watched New Years 2014 celebrations from Madeira on TV. I was amazed seeing the fireworks. It was then I made the decision to come here for this occasion. Growing up, I had always heard of Madeira and its unique warmth and hospitality, but what awaited us truly surprised me. Its raw beauty, freshness, gastronomy and her friendly inhabitants, truly made our holiday so amazing. Our New Years in Madeira is one I will never forget.
I enjoy taking pictures, am an avid cook and simply adore European architecture. Travel is my drug. As retirement is nearing, I am looking forward to returning to Madeira and perhaps spending some winters there. I love the contrast of the weather in Madeira; as it was beautiful and there is so much to see and do to keep one occupied. Madeira truly is an island for all levels of interest.
Madeira hosts amazing and unique festivals that have become world-wide known. I will be tweeting articles, pictures and restaurant recommendations, in hopes that it will inspire more people to travel there.
Welcome and stay a while …. come visit this magical place that even Christopher Columbus so loved! You will not regret this stop in the middle of the Atlantic!

We are based in the UK and made our first visit to Madeira 15 years ago. We wanted to visit for the flowers and the climate. We visited again in November 2006 and then in April 2009. This April 2009 visit was planned so that we could be in Madeira for the Annual Flower Festival in Funchal. Our last visit was in November 2015.
In England we enjoy visiting gardens and taking photographs when we are not organizing and attending Farmers Markets.
We have tried to include a mix of photos including some of landscapes, the flower festival, flowers, Christmas lights through to the painted doors of Old Funchal Town.
This reflects the type of subjects that we photograph normally. We are both members of a photographic club in the UK and have a genuine interest for locally produced items which has resulted in our involvement in farmers market in Kent for the last 17 years.
